FOUNDATION MORNINGTON YACHT CLUB FOUNDATION MEMBER SAILING INFRASTRUCTURE APPEAL The Foundation is launching a new appeal for funds to assist the Club in replacing and repairing much needed sailing infrastructure. One of the Club's rescue boats "Wally" is in need of repair or replacement having served the Club well over the last 10 years. If "Wally" is to replaced we will need to raise some $20,000 to purchase a new boat suitable for our needs.
"Wally" provides services to all areas of the Club including supporting our Sailability program and our junior sailors. In addition "Retriever" needs new instruments and other important repairs. In addition the Foundation wishes to continue its program of assisting our elite sailors compete in important regattas to further develop their sailing careers. As an example Lily and Matilda Richardson are members of the Australian Youth Sailing Team and are to compete in the Youth World Championships in Gdynia in Poland in July. In the lead up to the Worlds they will compete in the New Zealand Nationals, they will train in Japan, then compete in Keil Week in Germany and the World 420 Championships in Portugal. Although they will obtain some financial assistance from Australian Sailing, which covers the training camp in Japan, the costs of this campaign are substantial. We are requesting donations to assist the Foundation in raising the necessary funds to replace and repair our sailing infrastructure. A suggested donation is $100 per member but please give whatever you can. Donations made through the Mornington Yacht Club Foundation site at the Australian Sports Foundation are tax deductable. You can access this site directly on the internet to make your donation https://asf.org.au/donate/mornington-yacht-club-foundation/ Or alternatively complete the attached donation form and post to the ASF (see bottom of form for the address) or send to the Club office who will forward on to the ASF. The Foundation will match contributions made to a total of $5,000. This will mean, for a member on a 30% tax rate a donation of $100 (net cost to the member of $70) will contribute $200 to this project until the Foundation's cap of $5,000 is reached. Please give what you can to this worthwhile project. Thank you for your co operation, Bill Bennett, Club Captain The 29th Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta is coming up from 8-10 June 2019.
This year’s regatta is shaping up to be the biggest yet! Contact Allicia Rae, Sailing Coordinator on: 03 9534 0227 or email: [email protected] for more info Big sailing weekend for MYC members. We hosted the 420 State Titles, we had 11 Opti kids at the States at Brighton, some trailer sailors at Marlay Point and Graeme Taylor competing in the Etchell States at Royal Geelong.
The Opti Kids had a ball and showed great improvement over the regatta. Some notable results. In Green Fleet Leigh Harvie and Jaime Beck first and second boys, Lucy Laverty 3rd Girl in Intermediate. Our coach Mel reports that all kids had a ball and loved the comradery of competing in a State Championships. At Royal Geelong, Graeme Taylor (aka “GT”) added yet another title to his impressive list of sailing achievements with an emphatic victory in the Sate Etchell Championships. On the home front MYC hosted the 420 State Championships a warm up to hosting the Nationals next summer. Although the fleet was down on expectations the racing was keen over a spread of conditions from a drifter on Saturday to huge seas on Sunday. Congratulations to James Jackson and his crew Lachie Caldwell, they sailed an exceptional regatta and came away with a commanding series win. Lily and Matilda Richardson completed a good series for Team MYC coming third. The success of the weekend was further proof that our club is very good at running regattas. This Rear Commodore and Club Captain Bill Bennett spent the weekend on Wally as the start line pin boat. As silly as it sounds we had a great time marvelling at the skills of these young sailors in all conditions. These kids CAN sail!!!! Maybe some of us older members should be getting lessons from them?! As usual nothing happens without the input of our fantastic team of volunteers, on the land and on the water. Well done to all. Bill Bennett Club Captain Greg Martin Rear Commodore. ![]() The Sailing Instructions for the 420 Victorian State Championships have been released. Click here to retrieve them from the Regatta HQ |
