Coastal Champions 2022/23!! "Ginan" skippered by Cam McKenzie and Nigel Jones Magpie swoop second Etchells regatta in a row
The third day of the International Etchells Australasian Championship was sailed on Sunday 11 June and despite the best efforts of their competitors, the team onboard AUS1486 Magpie skippered by Graeme Taylor, with Richie Allanson and James Mayo swooped in to finish off the job and take the regatta. CONGRATULATIONS!! Dress Up - OPTIONAL....but what a great excuse to venture out in your Uggs! :) Half game show. Half party. That's how we describe it. One Bingo caller calls out the numbers and his budding DJ play songs from the 80’s and 90’s that rhyme with those numbers.
Throw in some jokes, tributes and spontaneous air guitar competition and you’ll soon see why this night of Bogan Bingo at our favourite local Mornington Yacht Club will be a hoot. Drinks & nibbles available at the bar. Tickets exclude food & beverage. No BYO. MYC member ID required for all discounted member ticket purchases and will be requested upon entry. Please present ticket purchase upon entry. Seating requests will be allocated on a first booked basis, and otherwise cannot be promised. Prize for best dressed Bogan of the night. Tickets are limited so book yours today. Doors will open from 7pm. Bingo starts 8pm. VALE | Nan Rodd
Nan Rodd passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 96. She was a long time life member and the wife of late Max Rodd. Her contribution to the MYC associates as they were known in the early days of the club was huge. Social events were highlights in the Summer months as the many members from Melbourne flocked to the beaches and the holiday environment of the yacht club. Husband Max was a former office holder and board member of the club who was on the building sub committee that planned and built the new clubhouse on the reclaim. He is also remembered for his longstanding involvement with the training of our Juniors and has the school named after him. There will be a celebration of Nan's life to be announced at a later date. Navionics & Fundamentals of Navigation, 2 courses. Navigation has changed a lot in the past few years. You no longer need specialised skills. While tacticians have significance, the capacity for all crew members to navigate proficiently has become more attainable than ever before by software on their smartphones and GPS devices. This shift holds immense potential in bolstering safety on board, as every crew member can actively participate or should know how to navigate, thereby reducing the hazards associated with erroneous navigation. Learn how to use Navionics and learn the fundamentals of navigation by joining the 2 upcoming courses. For those who have been following our journey, you know it has been a tough progression onto the Olympic circuit with a large abundance of logistics always able to go wrong, as well as significant time and effort to start slowly climbing up the international ranks. We continue to conquer these challenges and chase our dreams, but would like to use this opportunity to ask those interested in supporting our journey to donate during this EOFY period. In 2022 we got an introduction to the International 470 fleet and what it will take to become the best, and now have a clear path towards becoming the best in the world, aiming for a Gold medal at the 2028 Olympic Games. In 2023 we race alongside all those aiming for medals in 2024, and are privileged to be racing for Australia in the Olympic Qualifying regattas, starting with the 2023 World Championship. Our road to success has only just began, but the costs involved are no less now while we race in the middle of the fleet, as to what they are for those racing at the front of the fleet. Our first Europe trip for the year has just been completed, with two World Cups and a European Championships under our belt. We finished the trip finally cracking into the top 50% and racing in the Gold fleet. This trip proved our persistence and hard work is paying off, but also reminds us of all the work still to be done. We will be training hard through the cold months of the Aussie winter before we head back to Europe for the Worlds in August. This World Championship will be another expensive trip, and costs involved also flow into next season, including needing to ship our boat back to Australia, and purchase a new boat to keep in Europe so we are set up for the many years ahead of us on our journey. Hence, any financial assistance towards our campaign is hugely appreciated and we would be delighted to accept your support this EOFY. Through our page with the Australian Sports Foundation you can submit a tax deductible donation. If you or your company is interested in coming on board as a sponsor or discussing a partnership with AUS12 we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you and what we can offer; from advertising stickers on our sails to guest speaking at corporate events. Thank you to all those who have been following and supporting our journey to date, and thank you for considering making a contribution to our journey.
