CHRISTMAS GREETINGS
The Commodore, Flag Officers, the Board and Office staff take this opportunity of wishing all members and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It has again been a difficult year with COVID continuing to disrupt our lives; hopefully 2022 will see a return to a more normal way of life and as a result we look forward to seeing you down at the Club enjoying the facilities both on and off the water. Congratulations to MYC members Jack Eickmeyer and Lachie Weber who competed at Sail Sydney in the Laser Radial class placing 1st and 2nd respectively in the Mens division and 2nd and 3rd overall in a big fleet.
An outstanding result during a tough few days with big winds hitting the Harbour, Sydney ferry swells to contend with - and even some equipment damage. Well done guys! There will also be extra activities like SUP, windsurfing and powerboating - give your kids / grandkids a week to remember!!! Click here to book & see other Holiday Programs available We had 72 entries between the standard rig, radial and the youth 4.7 rig. The radial numbers made over half at 41 boats. Entries from ~13 to 70 years old.
We had 6 MYC sailors. Jack Eickmeyer was 2nd Radial and first Youth (U19). Lachie Weber 4th Radial and 2nd youth. And Dan Laverty 9th Radial, 3rd youth and first junior (U17). To give some perspective Simon Merritt from McCrae won for the 4th time, and 3rd place was an Olympian, the rest of the top 10, all adults. In the 4.7 fleet Heath Jones and Jack Vermeer competed in the first Laser regatta, learnt lots, did well, and with a smile at the end. Again a huge thank you to our volunteers. MYC has a great reputation. This regatta though wasn’t about parents of kids sailing, most volunteers were there for their club. We have such an amazing team with strengths in so many different areas. That’s what makes such a strong team. Led by the flag officers, as an example. The Commodore on pin boat yet again all weekend. Bill, sailed back from Geelong late Saturday and fronted up to help on Retriever Sunday and Mr Everywhere, Legend Laurie, there at dawn both days and leading TAG during the week. It was for sad reasons we couldn’t have Bolts on the Sunday. But with the work he has put in teaching over the years, and in the last month with the new buoy zone app for mark laying, the team pivoted to bridge that gap. The mark layers, rescue boats, the guys bobbing up and down on a finish boat while all these boats finish at once. The TAG, the BBQ crew, the welcome committee at the back gate. The tower, office and beach helpers. There are too many to mention, but we were wrapped to have so much new help from all areas of the club, including keelboats, TYs and social members. Even if it’s just a day, last minute, an hour or two on the BBQ, in the yard setting up, or packing up, it is all contributing to the team effort. And the attention is gets, is all positive for the club, for example new members approached to join during the weekend. Must have been all the happy faces. The Victorian Laser Association were part of the success and did make it easier to run than many regattas. Even easier with no protests and no scoring enquiries all weekend. Now for Schnapper Point and Victorian Junior Carnival in February! We are expecting many of these Lasers to come back, as they had a good experience this weekend.. Andrew Weber, Training & Development Sub Committee BIG Huge congratulations to MYC member James Jackson and his crew Harrison Chapman for winning Australian Sailing's Youth Sailor of the Year 2021!!!
James and Harrison won first place in the 420 National Championships as well as the Vic 420 State Championships - they also finished top of the podium at Sail Sandy in February and the 420 Metung Summer Regatta in January 2021!!! What an amazing year - well done!!! We are very proud of you! Attention Skippers:
Conditions required for having members and guests on board your boat during Club Racing This season ALL people on your boat on Club Racing days (Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays) need to be accounted for due to an Australian Sailing prescription to Rule 46, “that requires ALL persons on board a boat while racing shall be members of a club affiliated to Australian Sailing, and have an Australian Sailing number or hold a valid Sail Pass” Compliance with this rule is important. For safety reasons, the Club, if in the event of an incident needs to know exactly how many people are on that particular boat, also their names and all crew are covered by Australian Sailing insurance. The way in which MYC are conducting this is via the Sign On sheet at the Race Office - please list EVERYONE on the sheet and whether they are a current MYC sailing Member or have organised a Sail Pass. If you get some last minute guests, please call the race office – 03 5975 6805 and request that they be added to your Sign On sheet. In addition to the unlimited sailing for Crew & Senior sailing memberships, the following now apply: Social Memberships - include 4 FREE sails per season, with a current valid Sail Pass for each race, before being required to upgrade to a Crew. To have insurance cover whilst on the water, a Sail Pass for the day that the member wishes to sail needs to be organised. This can be done via the sail pass link from the homepage of our website choosing the 2nd option 2 (already have AS Number), or via the office. For all non members/ non sailing members/ visitors a Sail Pass is required - the first FOUR sails are FREE, then the next four sails cost $15 per sail, before an upgrade to Crew membership is required to continue to sail, with any money paid to come off the total amount. This can be done via the Sail Pass link from the home page of our website or via the office. Please familiarise yourself with the above and do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions at all or would like a demo on how to purchase a Sail Pass so that you can help your guests. It is very easy to do and can be done via your phone by clicking on this link. *Please note only fully vaccinated members and guests are permitted to enter the club facilities We are really excited to let you know that we have a new date for our 75th Anniversary Party!
